Welcome to the Jungle

This year, inside. Next year, outside.

That is what we have been telling ourselves. The house really needs a paint job, and the landscaping in the front was overgrown and out of control.

Then, my absolutely fabulous Aunt and Uncle swooped in and upped our curb appeal by about 10million points.

Underneath all that overgrowth and weeds there were acutally some flowers!

Here's a before and after. If you click on the picture for actual size, you can see how much work they really did.

Thanks to them both - and to my sister - who found out that she actually doesn't mind spreading mulch. I hope she comes back next spring!

The pictures are a great addition to the blog. It will keep everyone updated, even those of us who have not actually been to the house yet. You will have to show me how to post pictures. I love that you and Justin are so attuned to the "new age" of computers. It really helps everyone stay in touch.
I am going to send your e-mail to Uncle Rick and Steph, if you don't mind. I know they will want to see things too.
Keep us posted. See you soon.
Love,
A. Deb and U. Rick

Nice!

There's a movement to use your "lawn" as a garden ... http://www.foodnotlawns.com/
http://www.tristatefoodnotlawns.org/
to grow veggies, herbs, etc., instead of grass which uses land space without contributing much to the environment (especially if you use fertilizers, etc.) and is a huge and unnecessary waste of water in the US (if you water your lawn).

You might consider an alternative to the grassy green.

This is also interesting ... moss lawns. Here is an article from the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/01/garden/01moss.html

I guess that would leave Justin without anything to mow though ...
Maybe he can mow the neighbor's yard. :)

Um, hello.....there has to be room to play wiffleball. And my dad already bought me a lawnmower.

Wiffle ball is awesome, be sure to make room for that. I used to be pretty good in my youth ha. I hope you also leave room for volleyball. Volleyball can be fun when there is a get together too.

There is something to be said about mowing ones lawn. I enjoy mowing the lawn. The fresh cut grass smell and the beautiful lawn always make the work worth while.

Hey, the websites/blogs that your friend suggested are a cool idea. I will have to check them out as we are moving toward less lawn care and more self sustaining gardens. The added benefit is that I could also be helping the environment.
This blog is great!

Talk to you soon,
Aunty Deb
